My awesome friend Amanda Dykes tagged me in a blog hop where writers talk about their current projects.
So I thought it’d be fun today to tell you a little about the book I’m currently writing. I won’t give away too many details, though…you know, in case it ever actually gets published (still got my fingers crossed and prayers lifted on that!).
So, without further ado, here are the questions Amanda passed on for me to answer…
1) What is the title of your book? The title is The Song Inside, though I don’t actually have much attachment to it (I’m horrible at titles!!). The book is about a singing competition, but the title is more about how there is a song inside each one of us, a deep yearning for something…more. What does your song say about you? (Mysterious, right? Ha.)
2) Where did the idea for the book come from? I actually don’t remember, but I do remember waking up at 3 am one morning and grabbing a notebook as the ideas flowed. So maybe I dreamed it?
3) What genre does your book fall under? Inspirational contemporary with romantic elements (yes, there’s a love story!)
4) Which actresses would play your main characters in a movie based on your book?
For Stacy (the daughter), I’d have a blond Rachel McAdams:
And for the mom, Marcy, I’d have a demure Demi Moore (ha):
5) How long did it take to write the manuscript draft? I wrote the majority of it in about three months, though it took much longer to plot and structure it.
6) Who or what inspired you to write this book? It’s my hope that it’s always God who inspires me to write. I want my work to be something that gets people thinking about more than just the “here and now.” Stacy and Marcy learn some important lessons about who they are in God…lessons that I’ve had to learn (and keep learning) myself.

I wrote my last draft in 7 weeks which is about average for me on a first draft. The last books I read were My Stubborn Heart by Becky Wade and A Proper Pursuit by Lynn Austin. I loved them both!

It sounds like a fun story Lindsay! I love waking up with ideas! That's always exciting!! I'm currently reading Bird by Bird, by Anne Lamott. And it's incredible! Should have read it five years ago.
Confession: I have it and have yet to read it. Maybe I'll move it up in my pile since it's so highly recommended!

I'm about to wrap up a suspense I started writing in late Oct–so it's taken about 2 1/2 mos for the rough draft. I've had to push myself many times, but it's so worth it when you get to the end and realize you've written a BOOK! Yeah! Unfortunately, that means I've been reading NOTHING in the meantime! I want to read Adam Blumer's FATAL ILLUSIONS before his second book comes out soon. I also want to read Anne Voskamp's 1000 Gifts (or is it 10,000 gifts?).
Ooo, thanks for the offer. I'll keep that in mind for sure. And congrats on being so close to the end!! 2-1/2 months is killer speed. And I got 1,000 Gifts for Christmas and can't wait to dig in and read it.
Haha, I don't know if I can answer your question about how long it took me to write the draft of my current book because I started it and then ripped it apart and then started it again so many times. Haha! And can I say again that I cannot wait to read your book!!!
I'm currently reading Tamera Alexander's A Lasting Impression. It was on so many "Favorite of 2012" blogs and lists that I was kicking myself for not having read it yet. Promptly downloaded it to my kindle and started reading…loving it already. 🙂

Books? I've read a bunch by Tamela Alexander. Talking to the Dead by Bonnie Grove, holy cow that was GOOD.
Current book? My first one, so a year, including this that and the other tweak! I'm looking at an overhaul, so I need to plot that and then do it. Probably a month to 6 weeks.
I did so many drafts with my first one, too. Oh, the learning process!

Your book sounds so fun, Lindsay! I'll be quick because I'm not sure my comment is going to go through. Still figuring out my MacBook. 🙂 I'm currently reading The Edge of Recall, by Kristin Heitzmann. GREAT book. I wrote the draft of my current book in 5 1/2 weeks. That was after a couple of months of planning and plotting it. Revisions. Well, those are taking much longer. Can't wait to read some of your work, my friend!

My last story took about three months to write, as well, but that was the second draft. The first draft took me more than ten years! 🙂
I hope this next one take about three or four months. The revising/editing and polishing part takes a bit longer.

I'm currently reading an advance copy of Melanie Dickerson's "The Fairest Beauty"–a lovely spin on the "Snow White" tale with a touch of faith. It releases later this month. I'm quite enjoying it!
My current novel took nearly five months from idea to "The End." It was 117,000 words and steeped in tons of WWII research…wowza, I had no idea I was writing that quickly. I think I'll pace myself a bit more when I start the sequel in a few weeks. 🙂
